Coastal Management

line

As described in "SEDIMENT MANAGEMENT", maintaining coastal area is an important field of civil engineering. And if the sea level is to rise due to global warming, coastal protection will become more important to our societies. We experienced severe coastal disasters recently; Indian Ocean earthquake in 2004, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Nargis in 2008, and unforgettable Great East Japan Earthquake in Japan. Necessity of high tide countermeasures at the coastal zones does not require explanations today.

NEWJEC has many experiences in high tide simulation, high tide damage evaluation study, preparation of high tide hazard map and study on countermeasure works. The data and analysis results obtained through these study processes are ingeniously arranged and utilized not only by government officials in charge of disaster prevention and management of facilities, but also used in explanation and dissemination on disaster prevention to coastal communities.
